Im Londoner Mandarin Oriental ist am Mittwoch ein Großbrand ausgebrochen. Die Gäste, darunter, laut Bild-Zeitung, auch Robbie Williams, wurden von Mitarbeitern evakuiert. Ein Großaufgebot der Londoner Feuerwehr bekämpfte den Brand und versuchte über Stunden, das Feuer unter Kontrolle zu bringen.
Laut der Metropolitan Police und dem Ambulance Service gab es keine derzeit keine Verletzten. Zur Brandursache kann die Feuerwehr vorerst keine Angaben machen.
Das „Mandarin Oriental“ gilt als eine der besten Unterkünfte in der britischen Hauptstadt und wurde 1902 eröffnet. Das Hotel verfügt über 173 Zimmer und 25 Suiten. In der Nähe befinden sich unter anderem das berühmte Kaufhaus „Harrods“ sowie die Botschaften Deutschlands und Frankreichs.
Das Hotel, in dem sich das weltberühmte Sterne-Restaurant „Foliage“ befindet, war vor Kurzem erst für 210 Millionen Euro renoviert worden.
Mandarin Oriental schriebt zu dem Brand auf Facebook:
"Today’s unfortunate fire at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has been contained. The fire did not extend to the Residences at One Hyde Park.
To the best of our knowledge, all Mandarin Oriental guests have been accounted for and we are contacting guests who were not in the hotel at the time. All colleagues are safe and accounted for. Hotel guests are being accommodated at other hotels in the vicinity. We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has conveyed their concern about this sad incident. We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response, and are working closely with them to ensure the safety of the building.
